Definition and concepts

The indicator uses both the broad and narrow definition of alcohol related admissions. The narrow definition counts those episodes where the primary cause is related to use of alcohol, the broad definition counts those episodes where either the primary or secondary cause of admission is attributable to alcohol use.

Comment and limitations

The years on the graph include both individual and multi-years, for example 2008 and 2008/09, as alcohol-related mortality is measured by individual year (e.g. 2008), whereas admission episodes are measured by multi-years (e.g. 2008/09).
